Benefit Dinner
A benefit dinner for Drift Creek Camp is planned for
Friday, March 19th at Zion Mennonite Church in Hubbard.

To help with planning, please register by Sunday, March 14th.

Invitation from Directors and Statement of Need

The dinner will begin at 6:30, but please plan to arrive by 6:15. The event will feature guest speaker Dr. Luke Gascho of Goshen College's Merry Lea Environmental Center in Indiana. Luke joined us for the 2008 Annual Members' Meeting and shared from his book Creation Care: Keepers of the Earth. He is a wonderful speaker and approaches life with grace and thoughtfulness and a deep appreciation for beauty. His topic for this event is Creation: A Gift of Love, “God created the universe as an expression of his love, which is a gift to us. The evening will explore how a place like DCC helps people of all ages grow in their love for God--and everything that God loves. Nurturing a sense of wonder enriches our lives in relation to the gifts that God has given. The presentation will highlight how experiences at special places, like DCC, foster a holistic understanding of caring for creation as a response to God's gifts.”

This is a Drift Creek Camp Board event and will be an evening to celebrate camp's legacy which will soon celebrate its 50th year! Board members will be present as hosts and available to answer questions. Teens who have served as counselors and volunteers or continue to be campers will serve guests and camp information will be available.

There will be no per-ticket charge, however, we ask that folks reserve seating in advance either by registering on-line link or by calling the camp office at 541-992-2556 or emailing by Sunday, March 14th.  Seating is limited to 200 people so it will be important to register early. We would LOVE to see the Zion fellowship hall packed with camp supporters! If there are groups wishing to reserve entire tables (each seating 8) we can arrange for that. The folks at Zion are generously planning a delicious meal that includes chicken cordon bleu, salad, homemade dinner rolls, green beans and dessert.

The purpose of this event is to raise funds for a place that we all love. As we reach our 50th year there has literally been a lot of water under the bridge.  Many families, campers, schools and congregations have enjoyed the facility and all that such a wonder of God's creation provides. But the reality of being located in a rain forest takes its toll on facilities and it is an expensive place to maintain. Soon the current not-so-reliable phone line will be removed. The Forest Service plans to dismantle the old road along which the line runs. Alternatives are being explored and a new system will need to be installed. We are also working to improve the power system and an additional 24 batteries (at $400 each) need to be purchased as well as additional inverter components. The hope is that eventually these will support a micro-hydro system which could reduce Drift Creek's diesel dependence.

In spite of the work load, and the great cost to maintain, let alone improve, the facilities. There is also much to celebrate when you think of the important role DCC has had on the lives of all of us. We hope you will join in this celebration and make a difference for DCC!
